An Evil Spiritįor starters, Paranormal Activity is about an evil spirit, and evil spirits are the only things that really scare me. Paranormal Activity is a perfect storm of three particular elements that come together in just the right way to create the ultimate nightmare fuel, so let’s take a look at those three things and see why I find this film so damn scary. Why does this movie have that effect on us? Why do we find those loud noises and moving doors so scary? I’ve thought a lot about this question, and while I can’t speak for everyone, I can say that for me, the answer is threefold. It relies mainly on things like loud noises and slamming doors, and I can understand why that doesn’t work for everyone.īut then then there are people like me, people whose spines tingle just thinking about those things. ![]() This movie doesn’t have the horrific imagery that a lot of horror fans are drawn to, and for the most part, the characters are never in any real danger until the very end. For example, they look at the scene early in the movie when the door moves a little bit then goes back to its original position, and they yawn because, well, it’s just a door moving-and I totally get it. Now, I know some people don’t get the hype about Paranormal Activity. I’m not really sure, though, because everyone else in the theater was screaming too. ![]() I didn’t laugh at any of the scary parts, and while I didn’t have nightmares afterward, I think I might have screamed a bit at the end. The film started out alright, but it quickly became the most harrowing moviegoing experience of my entire life. I didn’t think the trailers looked very good, but my buddies convinced me to go to the theater with them anyway. ![]() I was in college, and some of my friends wanted to see it. ![]() The Falcon and The Winter Soldier had much more to offer in terms of relevance because it touched on serious themes that the MCU hasn’t delved into before. Viewers suspect that the Scarlet Witch and the God of Mischief will have a huge impact on the next decade of Marvel movies, while The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is slowly being forgotten. Sam and Bucky are more grounded in reality than the other Phase 4 heroes, and fans are starting to notice connections between Wanda and Loki’s stories. Since other heroes like Doctor Strange are going to be spearheading the future of the MCU, these fantasy elements will be the driving force behind the characters fighting the impending multiverse war, or even the Timekeepers themselves. They don’t possess any special powers, or even come close to Wanda’s ability to jump between realities. Neither Sam nor Bucky have been exposed to time travel elements the same way Loki, or even the Avengers, have been in recent times. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was created to remedy those problems, which it did, but it also didn’t leave many unanswered questions to be solved during Phase 4. With Steve passing on the Captain America mantle to Sam at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and Bucky just now being free from Hydra for the first time in over a century, a lot of their problems in the series stemmed from the catastrophic events of the Infinity Saga. RELATED: Black Widow Can Continue The Work Of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier Sam and Bucky don’t have magical powers or personal connections to the all mighty timekeepers, and the most recent part of their journey felt like a closing piece to Phase 3, rather than an introduction to Phase 4. ![]() The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was received by fans just as spectacularly, but it followed the more traditional guidelines the MCU has used in previous movies. WandaVision and Loki have also been experimenting with formats much different than anything Marvel has done before, setting them apart from other projects in the past. Both of these series are obviously very multiverse-focused, and between Wanda’s newfound ability to manipulate time and space, alongside Loki’s antics at the TVA, these characters will be major players during the upcoming multiverse war. ![]() As Marvel’s Disney Plus series have continued to see success, it’s quickly become obvious that WandaVision and Loki are setting up the MCU for Phase 4. ![]()
Early Christian basilicas from the 4th century onwards were decorated with wall and ceiling mosaics. Pebble mosaics were made in Tiryns in Mycenean Greece mosaics with patterns and pictures became widespread in classical times, both in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Mosaics have a long history, starting in Mesopotamia in the 3rd millennium BC. ![]() Mosaic today includes not just murals and pavements, but also artwork, hobby crafts, and industrial and construction forms. Mosaics are often used as floor and wall decoration, and were particularly popular in the Ancient Roman world. Each row of 3 pictures represents a style: Ancient Greek or Roman, Byzantine and Art NouveauĪ mosaic is a pattern or image made of small regular or irregular pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic, held in place by plaster/ mortar, and covering a surface. Max Overlap - By default the settings above will not allow boards to overlap, so to see the effect of random rotation or offset you need to have a relative large grout size so the boards have place to move around, if you don't care about a bit of overlapping you can raise the "Max Overlap".Various examples of mosaics. ![]() Tilt Settings - Same principle as the rotation and offset, tilt changes the angle of the top surface, this simulates floorboards or tiles that are laid uneven. This is by default locked to the X value to randomly move in both directions. Max/Min Offset Y - Same principle as "Max Offset X" it just controls the other direction. Spread - Controls the distribution of the movement, for details read above. Min Offset X - Controls the minimum movement, so should normally be set to 0 to randomly move between 0 and the value in "Max Offset X". Max Offset X - Controls how much each board can move in the X direction, usually the length direction., it is restricted to not overlap other boards, if you don't care about that read about "Max Overlap" below. Spread - Controls the distribution between Max and Min, if the spread value is low then only a few boards will be rotated with the maximum value, if it's 0,5 the rotation is evenly distributed, and if it's high more boards will be rotated with the Max value. Min Rotation - Controls the minimum rotation, so should normally be set to 0 to randomly rotate between 0 and the value in "Max Rotation". Max Rotation - Controls how much each board can rotate around itself, it is restricted to not overlap other boards, if you don't care about that read about "Max Overlap" below. Hexagon, Radius - Controls the size of one hexagon tile, the radius is the size of the circumscribed circle. Herringbone, Parallel Boards - Controls how many boards there should be side by side.Ĭhevron, Angle - Controls the angle of the boards, don't use too high angle, it might create A LOT of boards.īasket Weave, Sub Boards - Controls how many boards there should be inside each square. Settings specific to certain types of floors: Outline - Controls the width of the bevel, by default it's locked to the height in order to create a 45 degree bevel. Row Offset % - Controls how much each row of boards should be offset.Įxtrude H - Controls the height of the floor.īevel H - Controls the height have the bevel along the edge of the board. ![]() Grout Wid - Control the width of the grout in the width direction. Grout Len - Controls the width of the grout in the length direction. Spread - Controls the distribution if there is variable width, for details read above. ![]() Min Width - Controls the minimum length a board can be. Max Width - Controls the maximum width a board can be. Spread - If you have boards with variable length the "Spread" setting will control the distribution between the two sizes, 0,5 the length is evenly distributed, a low Spread value creates a lot of long boards and only a few short ones, a high spread creates a lot of short boards and only a few long ones. Min Length - Controls the minimum length a board can be. Max Length - Controls the maximum length a board can be. Floor Pattern - If you have the full version you can switch between the types of patterns in the """Floor Pattern" Drop down menu. ![]() This entry was posted in Geometry, Grades 9-12 and tagged proof only 3 polygons tessellate, regular tessellations, tessellation by Math Proofs. Therefore, they are the only polygons that can tessellate the plane. ![]() These are the representation of square, regular hexagon, and equilateral triangle respectively as we have stated above. Notice that the only possible ordered pair ( n, a) for this to be true are (4,4), (6,3) and (3,6). Subtracting 2 n from both sides and factoring the left hand side, we haveįactoring out $latex n-2$ we have $latex (n-2)(a-2) = 4$. That is $latex $latex an – 2a 4 = 2n 4$. Next, we add 4 to both sides to make it factorable. Multiplying both sides of the equation above by $latex n$, we have $latex 180a(n-2) = 360n$.ĭividing both sides by 180 results to $latex a(n-2) = 2n$ which simplifies to $latex an – 2a = 2n$. Now if we multiply this to $latex a$, the number or angles that meet at a point, the result must be 360 degrees for them not to have gaps or overlaps. ![]() The sum of the interior angles of a polygon with n sides $latex 180(n-2)$. Since the polygon is regular, the measure of each angle is equal to Theorem: The only regular polygons that tessellate are square, equilateral triangle, and regular hexagon. We will show below that these are the only possible regular polygons that will tessellate. Using this notation, we can describe the square as (4,4), the triangle as (3,6), and the hexagon as (6,3). Now, make the notation ( n, a), where n is the number of sides of the polygon and a be the number of angles that meet at a point. As you can see in the figure below, the sum of the interior angles meeting at a point is 360 degrees. Aside from these three, are there other regular polygons that can tessellate the plane? The answer is none.īefore we prove this theorem, let us first observe what make squares, equilateral triangles, and regular hexagons unique. For the third tessellation we use a property of an equilateral triangle: it has rotational symmetry by 60, that is, you can turn an equilateral triangle by 60. In this post, we explore the properties of regular polygons such as the one shown in the first figure. Some polygons maybe combined with other polygons to do this. The tessellation below is composed of 12-sided polygons, squares, and triangles. See this article for more on the notation introduced in the problem, of listing the polygons which meet at each point. The plane cannot always be tiled by a single shape. But he and others cautioned that the messaging has appeared to be growing more bellicose as Tehran has continued to enrich uranium to ever greater levels and Israel has responded by signaling an increasing willingness to strike Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz. “The posturing is part of the strategy,” Avishai told Yahoo News.
